Reuben Barnes

Reuben Barnes is the Managing Director at PCTE and has been with the company for 13 years, even before its official inception in 2008. Reuben’s specialities include Ground Penetrating Radar and Concrete Ultrasonics to name a few. His passion for non-destructive testing (NDT) began when he found a liking for chemistry at high school.

He was advised to do engineering at university after doing a JigCal test. Material Engineering had the right combination of the fields he was passionate about. After undertaking an Honours Thesis on creep testing of Chrome Molybdenum Alloys he started to become more interested by the world of testing (especially having spent 12 months looking after two Creep Machines). Scanning Electron Microscopes and PMI’s sealed the deal for him.

Once he had finished University he realised that most Materials Engineers were generally experienced Civil or Mechanical Engineers, who had specialised and so it was difficult to find work. ‘I managed to scout a position selling NDT with a new company and as soon as I started learning about NDT equipment for concrete I was hooked’.

Reuben specialises in Ground Penetrating Radar and Concrete Ultrasonics, which is the reason why his current favourite NDT product is the Proceq GPR live. After graduating with a B.Eng (Mat) Hon and B.Comm Reuben spent time travelling, with his favourite place being New York. Reuben has built PCTE in to the organisation it is today and works tremendously hard to bring to you a company to provide solutions to all of your testing needs.
