Positector RTR - Replica Tape Reader

PosiTector RTR Series - Digital spring micrometres measure and record surface profile parameters using Testex Press-O-Film™ replica tape.

Theory

Replica Tape provides a simple way to obtain an impression of a surface for analysis. It consists of a layer of crushable plastic micro foam affixed to a 50.8 μm (2 mil) incompressible polyester film.

When compressed against a roughened surface, the foam collapses and acquires an impression, or reverse replica, of the surface. It is available in a number of grades to accommodate measurements in different profile ranges.

Placing the compressed tape (replica) into the PosiTector RTR gives a measure of the average maximum peak-to-valley height of the surface roughness profile. PosiTector RTR-P models also measure peak density (Pd). Advanced RTR-P models generate 2D/3D images and SDF Surface Data Files.

The gauge automatically subtracts the thickness of the polyester substrate from all measurements.

RTR-P

A surface cleaned by abrasive blast is best described using two measured parameters: peak height and peak density.

• Generates 2D/3D images and SDF files (Advanced models) black and white two dimensional (2D) and colour three dimensional (3D) thumbnail images.
• Ideal for inclusion into reports and confirming consistent blasting results. A high resolution SDF (surface data file) that can be imported into free or purchased third-party rendering software that can be imported into third-party rendering software. 
• The result is a 3D map of the blasted steel surface at a cost far less than interferometric or confocal profiling devices.
